meet the ladies...
Meet Asma:
Asma is 22 years old and lives with her husband, 2 children, and her husband's family. Asma does all of the housework for her family. Her day begins at 5am with cleaning and cooking and she only leaves her home to come to the center. Asma's two kiddos bring such joy to us and keep us laughing!
Meet Nunni:
Nunni is 48 years old. She lives with her 2 sons, daughter-in-law, and 2 grandchildren. Before Nunni began working at the center, her son was the sole provider for her family but now she is able to contribute as well. Along with making cards and journals at the center, Nunni loves to sew and is an excellent seamstress. She keeps us all on our toes with her quick wit and humor!
Meet Tabasum:
Tabasum is 18 years old and lives with her family. She is not married but will be in 3 years. Tabasum attended school through 8th grade and then began helping her mother at home. Through working at the center, she is able to help her family relieve debts that they owe. Tabasum is incredibly smart and knows how to read and write. She is learning to do mhendi, a beautiful art form of temporary tattoo using henna.
Meet Zareena:
Zarina is 40 years old and lives with her husband and 8 children. Her husband is a bicycle rickshaw driver and rents his cycle. Through working at the center, Zareena is able to contribute toward the cost of renting his cycle and also toward her children's school fees. She is absolutely precious - so gentle and kind, always serving and quietly doing things to help others.
Meet Salma:
Salma is 35 years old and lives with her husband and daughter. She has a quiet spirit but its doesn't take much to send her into fits of shy giggles. Salma is a tiny lady but carries a big load at home, doing all the housework for her family. Through her work at the center, Salma is able to contribute to her family's expenses, especially her daughter's school fees.
Meet Mary:
Mary is 48 years old and lives with her husband and son. She loves to spend time with the other ladies in the slum, counseling and encouraging them. Mary also spends time serving and caring for children in the slum. She serves us at the center by cleaning and providing clean water for us, as well as making cards and journals. Mary also sings to us - a lot! :)
