"He cannot deny Himself"

I’m thankful for this truth: God is never not faithful. He cannot be more faithful than He is right now and He can’t be less faithful than He is right now. He is perfectly faithful – always. 2 Timothy 2:13 says, “…if we are faithless, He remains faithful – for He cannot deny Himself.” What an incredible God we serve. All the characteristics of God are true and pure. (Psalm 19:7-11) They never change. He never needs to be more loving, faithful, just, gracious, or holy because He is perfectly all these things. He is sovereign in every detail of life. The problem comes when we attempt to define what faithfulness is. We begin to think that if God isn’t doing what we asked, He’s not faithful. God, by Your grace, help us to see that in Your not doing what we ask, You are being faithful because You know what is best. He cannot deny Himself. What comfort, what peace this knowledge brings. When we realize that He is Creator, not us. That He is sovereign, not us. We can trust Him. After all, He created us. If we read the last few chapters of Job we see that God orchestrates every detail of creation. Nothing is out of His hand. And this very same God who tells the stars when to come out at night is faithful to us. Thank you, Lord Jesus! We rejoice in You alone, trusting that Your ways are perfect, resting in Your sovereignty. Help us to surrender our ideas and rest in the knowledge that You govern this world perfectly for Your glory and for the good of Your people.
